Apple Music Classical plays a second chord – this time on Android

Web Hosting & Remote IT Support In just two months after its iOS debut , Apple Music Classical is now available for download on Android smartphones via the Google Play Store. From the looks of it, it's pretty much the same thing as the iPhone version. You still have access to over five million classical ad-free tracks in “up to 192 kHz/24 bit Hi-Res Lossless” audio. There’s also thousands of recordings supporting spatial audio, the same specialized search engine to help users find music by composer or work (among other criteria), and the over 700 expertly curated playlists. Needless to say, the quality is still there. Apple isn’t holding back in delivering a great experience on Android. What’s funny is the Android app has launched before Apple Music Classical released for iPads and Macs, but that’s probably because of what the service used to be several years ago. You see, back in 2021, the tech giant purchased classical music streaming platform Primephonic which was avai

Microsoft Defender Antivirus is getting a new performance mode, but you probably won't ever see it

Web Hosting & Remote IT Support Microsoft Defender, the company’s antivirus program for Windows, is getting a new mode designed to make life easier for software developers. It is called “Performance mode”, works on Windows 11, and aims to minimize the impact scans can have on files found on Dev Drives. For the uninitiated, Dev Drives are a new type of storage volume, which uses the Resilient File System (ReFS) to make data more resistant to corruption. They were first introduced during this year’s Microsoft Build conference, BleepingComputer reminds, and is currently available in public preview. Dev Drives are used mostly to hold large data sets, but Defender was slowing build speeds down, apparently. Now, with the Performance mode, build speeds can get a boost of up to 30%, according to Microsoft's Chief Product Officer for Windows and Devices Panos Panay. Securing workloads "Dev Drive is based on the Resilient File System, which, combined with a new performance mo

Apple shuts My Photo Stream on July 26, so make sure you don't lose your photos

Web Hosting & Remote IT Support Apple has announced that it's shutting down its older My Photo Stream service on July 26, and encouraging everyone to move over to iCloud Photos. If you still use My Photo Stream, your files will remain available in the cloud for 30 days from July 26. My Photo Stream was the forerunner to iCloud Photos . It was free to use but only covered a maximum of 1,000 pictures and video clips, keeping these files in sync across every Apple device you owned and on the web. Apple hasn't given a reason for shutting down the service, but iCloud Photos is clearly the newer and more comprehensive option for photo and video backups – while also making some money for Apple in terms of storage fees at the same time. "Moving forward" "Moving forward, iCloud Photos is the best way to keep the photos and videos you take up to date across all your devices and safely stored in iCloud," Apple said in an email sent out to anyone who is still

This new malware hijacks Windows WordPad to avoid detection

Web Hosting & Remote IT Support Hackers have begun abusing a flaw in the WordPad text editor that comes preloaded with the Windows 10 operating system to distribute the Qbot malware , researchers have claimed. A cybersecurity researcher and a member of Cryptolaemus, going by the alias ProxyLife discovered a new email campaign in which hackers are distributing the WordPad program together with a malicious .DLL. When WordPad is launched, it will look for certain .DLL files it needs in order to properly run. First, it will look for the files in the same folder it resides, and if it finds them - it will automatically run them, even if those .DLL files are malicious. DLL hijacking The practice is usually called “DLL sideloading” or “DLL hijacking” and it’s a known method. Previously, hackers were seen using the Calculator app to do the same thing. In this particular instance, when WordPad runs the DLL, the malicious file will use an executable called Curl.exe (found in the System

D-Link fixes serious security flaws that could have left your business wide open to attack

Web Hosting & Remote IT Support D-Link has released patches for two critical vulnerabilities found in its network management suite which could allow threat actors to bypass authentication and execute arbitrary code, remotely.  The company fixed two flaws found in D-View, its network management suite that various businesses use for general network management and administration. The flaws were discovered late last year by security researchers taking part in Trend Micro’s Zero Day Initiative (ZDI). During the event, researchers found multiple vulnerabilities, with two standing out: CVE-2023-32165, and CVE-2023-32169. The former is a remote code execution flaw, which could be used to run malicious code with SYSTEM privileges. The latter, on the other hand, is an authentication bypass vulnerability that allows for the escalation of privilege, unauthorized access of information, and in some cases, installation of malware.  Beta patch Both flaws carry a severity score of 9.8 (crit

New iPhone 15 Pro Max specs leak hints at what's not changing this year

Web Hosting & Remote IT Support We've got some more iPhone 15 leaks to bring you, and the latest spec rumors to hit the web point to two components that aren't changing from the iPhone 14 range that launched in 2022, as well as two that are. These details are via well-known tipster Revegnus on Twitter (via GSMArena ), and cover the screen, main camera module, processor and RAM of the iPhone 15 Pro Max – a phone that has also been referred to as the iPhone 15 Ultra in some circles. Leaving aside the naming issue for now, the phone is apparently keeping the same 48MP IMX803 camera sensor from Sony found in the iPhone 14 Pro Max as its main camera. That contradicts previous reports pointing to the introduction of the Sony IMX903, with the same megapixel count but a larger sensor (to capture more light). iPhone 15 Pro MaxM12 Panel(Same as 14PM)imx803(Same as 14PM)3nm A17 BionicLPDDR5 8GB😔 May 27, 2023 See more Panels and processors Also staying the same, appar

6 cute iPhone widgets that do all the work for my tired brain

Web Hosting & Remote IT Support Widgets are one of my favorite iPhone tools, and widgets can turn your boring grid of app icons into a pleasant, useful home screen. Some widgets give you quick info at a glance, but I like widgets that can help me out and remind me to do the stuff that I’ll forget to do. When I’m out and about, these are the widgets I use to make sure I’m on top of everything, whether it’s remembering an important event or just a fun show I want to watch later.  What is a widget, anyway? A widget is an app, or a part of an app, that sits on your home screen and does its work whether you open it or not.  You don’t need to open the Weather app to check the weather, you can just add the Weather widget to your home screen. Likewise, you can find widgets that tell you the battery life of your phone and accessories, widgets that show you photos from your gallery, and widgets that track your steps and fitness, just like the best Apple Watch . How NetApp's superfast data skills are helping push Aston Martin F1 up the grid

Web Hosting & Remote IT Support In a sport where fractions of a second can mean the difference between pole position and second place, or where a few drops of rain can spell millions of dollars worth of damages, the need to have the right data at the right time is paramount. Every Formula 1 team in the paddock has invested heavily in IT over the past decade, with state of the art technology systems now almost as vital as an engine and tyres. One of the most recent big-name partnerships has been between cloud experts NetApp and Aston Martin F1 (AMF1), and TechRadar Pro headed to the team's Silverstone HQ to find out more. The need for speed "Simply put, my job is to make the car go faster, and I do that through technology," notes Clare Lansley, CIO, AMF1, "and let’s face it, technology is endemic throughout the industry." Formula 1 is now a truly global sport, with teams moving from locations as far-flung as Australia, Singapore, Canada and Brazil, alo

Watch out - ChatGPT is being used to create malware

Web Hosting & Remote IT Support The world's most popular chatbot, ChatGPT, is having its powers harnessed by threat actors to create new strains of malware . Cybersecurity firm WithSecure has confirmed that it found examples of malware created by the notorious AI writer in the wild. What makes ChatGPT particularly dangerous is that it can generate countless variations of malware, which makes them difficult to detect.  Bad actors can simply give ChatGPT examples of existing malware code, and instruct it to make new strains based on them, making it possible to perpetuate malware without requiring nearly the same level of time, effort and expertise as before.  For good and for evil The news comes as talk of regulating AI abounds, to prevent it from being used for malicious purposes. There was essentially no regulation governing ChatGPT's use when it launched to a frenzy in November last year, and within a month, it was already hijacked to write malicioius emails and fi
